Your Alcohol-Free Holiday Guide
Did you notice this newsletter is a day late?
I didn't until I went to bed last night and realized it was Wednesday, not Tuesday. This is a testament to the good "work" I've been doing by taking it easy.
As promised last week, I've been resting. I had a nice, long afternoon nap on the couch Sunday. I decided to not hurry up and finish a project, not run more errands, not catch up on more work stuff. I decided to prioritize rest, and it was absolutely the best thing for me. A nap can honestly cure a lot. If you are a go-getter like me and you want to get more stuff done, can you give yourself the option to maybe...just...not?
I had to work against my patterns and instincts to not do just one more thing and actively decide to just be and let my soft animal of a body do what it wants to do...a la Mary Oliver, if you know what I mean.
As far as the holidays go, can you look at your schedule and your list and check it twice? Can you decide what you want to do and let the rest go? It does not all have to be important. You can pick and choose which pieces matter and also allow yourself to keep your peace of mind (and freedom from alcohol) this season. You can always add in or change next season. Give yourself a good holiday edit this year.
Maybe you can have more joy with less hustle and bustle. Have more tune in and enjoy time and less busy work. Prioritize your own joy. It is your holiday too. What would that look like for you?
Let's talk about it on an upcoming Insider Group Call!
Yes, I understand the desire for magic making and kids (trust me, my youngest would still believe in Santa at 16 if someone hadn't told her, because of the hoops I jumped through to keep her a believer), but really, a healthy mom who is enjoying herself is the best gift for anyone who loves you, especially your children.
I am working on this myself. I am trying not to be a martyr and let my girls help with decorating; if they want the big shabang, they can roll up their sleeves and bring up those bins. I am working on letting my brother-in-law cover Thanksgiving the way he wants. I am trying to be ok with him not needing my superior mashed potatoes, gluten-free stuffing, and buffalo chicken dip, okay? Let him! Let him! Let him do it all if he wants! Give thanks!
I'll be doing the big meal for a crowd two days later and Christmas dinner a few weeks after that. I will accept help. I just will. Bring your pie. Bring those peanut butter balls. Yes, we love your sweet potatoes. Thank you! I won't win any awards for doing it all, and I am going to be okay with letting it go. Let everyone participate. Let me not beat myself into the ground with overwhelm for the elusive satisfaction of "I've got it all. I can do everything perfectly and independently." I swear this is part of what drove me to drink. The whip in my mind that doesn't stop whipping and my impossible expectations. Not this year. Nope.
This morning I am enjoying the first snowfall in Chicagoland. Sitting and watching the snow for a minute before I get ready for my day of calls and podcast recordings. Learning to love what I do and sit still. Live in flow and also produce work that I am proud of. Valuing accomplishment and leaning into the rhythm that life is presenting. Not controlling it all like the puppet master. Not slamming it in but enjoying myself in the process.
I am here to support you this season and beyond. My prices are increasing in the new year, so the best time to secure the best price for support in 2025 is now. You have options; you can join us on the INSIDER Community. We are adding a book club and peer support calls in the new year! You can secure your spot for 1x1 Coaching in 2025 with 2024 rates and get started for just $158 with payment plans available.
You can get started without doing it perfectly. You can show up to a few calls to gain some insight going into the holidays and set the stage for the new year. You can start coaching support before you are ready. That's how everyone does it. That's how we all succeed. We get started imperfectly.
You are responsible for your life and your happiness. Coaching can help, and the holidays are a perfect time to start to look at that. Maybe, like me, you have resentment and anger bubbling up. Maybe, like me, you have deep grief that you've been avoiding forever. Maybe like me, you desire to be happy in your perfect life, but you are not sure how, not sure of your purpose, undecided on the meaning of it all, but afraid that time is ticking away and the path you are on is not going to take you where you want to go in this lifetime. Yes Girl, call me.
If you are interested in becoming trained and certified as a coach, check out this special offer that is the lowest I've ever seen. If you are interested in launching a website, Kajabi is also offering the lowest price of the season and a free trial.
