You Are Not Stuck
I am thrilled to bring you this week's Peripeteia Podcast with Becky Vollmer, author of You Are Not Stuck. Becky is a friend of mine. I read her book. I've spent hours in her company. I've sat in circles, floated in pools, and shared food around a table with her multiple times. I am here to tell you that I learned SO MUCH about her by interviewing her for this episode. If you think you know Becky Vollmer, you've never heard this before. She shares so much with me in this episode. Plus, just the sound of her voice soothes. I highly recommend. She is exactly what this podcast is all about. You can listen here or anywhere you listen to podcasts. She is pure magic and it is my pleasure to share this podcast with you.
If you know me at all, you know I am the head cheerleader for sobriety. I am doing high kicks about the sober good life all the damn time. This weekend, though, I felt some sort of way about drinking and I got knocked off the top of the pyramid with my pom poms for a minute.
Naturally, I wrote about it here. I don't mean to be cocky, but I don't feel at risk for drinking; I do feel at risk for sifting through discomfort, however.
While you peruse that blog, you might notice that I like to change my website as often as I change my outfit. It is a constant work in progress, much like me. I much recommend a more "set it and forget it" attitude towards updating your website, but I just can't do it. I have to tinker. It always results in unnecessary drama, but hopefully some slight improvements along the way too (and a huge mess that takes me forever to clean up but nevermind).
I want to point out on the blog specifically that there are improvements. You can use the search bar to look up all Labor Day posts, or holiday posts, or posts about anxiety, or literally almost anything. It is a free resource for you and I hope it helps you feel less alone.
Many of my coach mentees are working towards getting a website up and going so it's a huge accomplishment to have one, imperfect and under construction as it may be. š§
Speaking of, students from my Launch Your Alcohol-Free Business meet with me as a group monthly to share ideas, get support, and offer community. It'sb been a bit clunky but we are finally gaining some consistency and momentum that we can build on. This month we have lots of new coaches getting certified. It's back to school for kids and adults alike. You are always welcome to set up a call with me to learn more about this.
We are doing Sober September in our Insider Membership. You are welcome to try it out for free. Our masterclass this month is by host Heather Ross, titled "Invitation to Change.". It's about loving someone through addiction. It's not the "tough love/there's nothing you can do until they want to change" type of talk track you are used to. It has so much value for all kinds of relationships. I was surprised to learn as much as I did and how applicable it was for anyone who loves anyone, but especially parents.
Tomorrow, I am heading out to Seattle for the Sober in the City event. I can't tell you how excited I am. I have my dream job working for myself, but it does get lonely and I am craving real-life connection. This is a highlight for me.
I will be the weekend MC, but because I am an overachiever, in the final hour, right now 16 hours before takeoff, I am considering trying to be a stand-up comedian. Please someone talk me out of this.
WTH? Could I come out with the worm like Hannah Berner or dress like Celeste Barber? Trust me, no one asked me to do this. No one. But I'm feeling like giving it a go anyway. So we'll just have to see what happens. I have no script and they are giving me the mic. š¤ God Bless Peggi Cooney and Susie Streelman for continuing to invite me back. I'd say this is the time I could really blow it and never be invited back, but I am already planning something super special for the next one, so if you aren't attending this event, stay tuned.
I will also be hosting the Thought Leader Collaborative with Katie Nessel/Soberish Mom. This workshop is, of course, a little more structured and we have a plan. We have a great interactive presentation planned and you know it's good when I think people will be more interested in her part and she thinks more people will be interested in my part. LOL.
Happy Sober September! Go listen to that podcast. If you love it please rate and review! If you hate it, don't tell anyone. š¤
XO!
-Heather
