What You're Missing
You don't know what you're missing on the inside. I'm giving you a sneak peek. This week in our Inside Community, we shared in a group call about how we're cleaning our emotional and spiritual houses.
We are getting rid of people-pleasing, food that doesn't nourish us, negative self-talk, and the idea that we are somehow inadequate or unqualified + more.
You may have seen my Instagram post about this. The prompts were valuable, but there is something much more valuable that comes from actually engaging in community. Let yourself be more than seen; let yourself be known. This has been a huge lesson for me personally, as someone who wore a mask of alcohol for a long time and is terrified of not being liked. In sobriety, I let people know me, authentically, wholly, and more unapologetically than ever before.
Connecting with others and hearing "me too" is one of the most powerful things on earth. You don't get that from a passive scroll or newsletter read.
We learn, heal, and grow in relationships. Relationships are our very best teachers, and if we are not allowing ourselves to be moved by others, to work through our reactions to others, to recognize our responses to another human being and how being around them shifts our energy for good, bad, or otherwise, we are not taking advantage of all the opportunities available to us. Especially in sobriety, we need a small group of people to say, "Wow. Yes. Me too. I feel all those things you just said. We are not alone."
I took a solo hike in the woods this weekend and paused to read about my friends (the trees) and their ecosystem. Nothing lives in isolation. Now more than ever we need each other. I encourage you to š give it a try.
In addition to the life-changing power of connection, I've also shared a high-vibe springtime playlist with 34 songs for blooming. Honestly, what fun! We've explored articles on wandering and romanticizing your life. I'm obsessed with cottagecore. I've given away 10 Substack subscriptions to both emerging writers and NY Times bestsellers (one is coming on the podcast soon, and I am fangirling all over the place). Speaking of, I've given away 6 quit lit books this year already too. Gifting is a love language. š I have about 30 more books looking for the right home. Is it yours?
Being part of a community is absolutely contagious. We've got the vibe, and it's almost impossible not to succeed with the power of the Insider women behind you.
Here's a testimonial from one of our members:
Good morning!! I just wanted to jump on here this morning and FINALLY officially introduce myself. I'm Cyndi and I live in Houston. I have been alcohol free for over 6 months! I don't look at the day count as frequently as I used to for some reason any longer. I am INCREDIBLY grateful and proud to be where I am! I began working with Heather when I reached one month in my journey, however, prior to that I stalked her IG for 2-3 years, scheduled a call and cancelled, stopped looking at DTD posts at one point in time and then last October after I had a month AF - scheduled and showed up for the call. Whoo hoo!! It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I knew I needed support moving forward.
Just as I wish I could have begun this journey sooner, I also wish I had reached out here sooner as well. I can feel very overwhelmed and have some anxiety at times. Getting through major events and the holidays without alcohol was all I was focused on. Then, just when I made it passed the New Year and thought I would have some breathing room, we decided to move. And that has added a whole new level of stress! During this time I've also been rebuilding trust with those I cherish and myself. SO - all that to say I decided to get on here and introduce myself today!
The thing that really prompted me is something funny happened this morning and I wanted to share with someone but it was too early. I thought "why don't I share with the group"?! I noticed a charge on my cc that I didn't recognize for almost $200. I researched it and it took me to a beachbody website. I've never signed up for anything like that and I started to report it as a fraud but then I decided to look in an email account I use for marketing, spam, etc. I found an email stating my yearly subscription fee for this particular site was going to be charged. I reset my password to log in and sure enough I must have signed up for this one night last year and completely forgot about it! LOL!! I never even downloaded the app to start working on my beachbody last year!! It really made me laugh! It was obviously when I was drinking that I made this quickly forgotten purchase. I downloaded the app (too late to cancel), and it doesn't look as daunting as the name sounds after all. I may utilize some of those workouts! Wouldn't that be something! Also, I will be at Sober in the City!! Looking forward to making connections.
I have many resources this week. I was interviewed on the Sober Life Rocks Podcast. A podcast to normalize sobriety in the workplace.
I am proud to be part of Sobriety is the New Epic, a virtual speaker series hosted by Sarah Treacy, a previous š business client of mine. It has been so cool to watch her break out of her own scared, sober shell and shout from the mountaintops that sobriety is the new epic!
