The Game-Changer You Can’t Always See ⚽✨
Last night, I sat on the sidelines with my heart in my throat, watching my daughter—now a captain on the varsity soccer team—play one of the most intense games of her high school career.
This is her fourth year on the team, but this season feels completely different.
Not because the players are wildly more talented.
Not because the competition got easier.
Not because luck was on their side.
In fact, last night they lost.
Overtime. One goal. Final score: a loss.
And yet… I walked off that field, celebrating like they had won.
Let me tell you why.
Last Year vs. This Year: Same Players, Different Results
Last year, this same team played this same opponent and lost 6–0.
Six goals. No answers. No momentum. No clear direction.
This year, they went into overtime and lost by one.
On paper, both teams looked almost identical to last year:
- Both lost strong players to graduation
- Both added new talent
- The opposing team still had slightly more raw skill
- The overall talent gap didn’t magically disappear
So what changed?
Coaching.
That’s it.
That’s the difference-maker.
When Talent Isn’t the Problem
Last year, the previous coach had years of service—but the girls struggled.
They disagreed with the coaching style.
They began coaching themselves on the field.
Mistakes were met with yelling—but not guidance.
Practices happened—but without clear strategy.
There was movement—but not momentum.
The girls didn’t lack talent.
They lacked leadership, direction, and a system.
And without those things, even strong players start to feel defeated.
This Year: A System Built on Success
Enter the new coach.
Experienced. Calm. Strategic.
This year, practice looks different.
There’s structure.
There’s clarity.
There’s feedback—not just criticism.
There’s a plan—not just activity.
And most importantly:
There’s belief.
You can see it in how they move on the field.
You can hear it in how they talk to each other.
You can feel it in the way they recover from mistakes instead of collapsing under them.
Last night’s game wasn’t just competitive.
It was transformed.
The Scoreboard Didn’t Tell the Whole Story
Yes, technically they lost.
But compared to last year?
This was a massive win.
From 6–0 to overtime.
From chaos to coordination.
From frustration to focus.
From doubt to resilience.
That kind of change doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens with coaching.
This Is Why I Believe So Deeply in Coaching
Watching that game reminded me exactly why I do what I do.
Because life works the same way.
Most women I coach don’t lack intelligence.
They don’t lack strength.
They don’t lack potential.
What they often lack is the following:
- A clear strategy
- Honest feedback
- Support through mistakes
- A system that builds momentum
- Someone in their corner who sees what’s possible
Not someone who yells from the sidelines.
Someone who guides from experience.
Sobriety Coaching Is Game Strategy for Life
Trying to change your relationship with alcohol without coaching can feel like last year’s team:
Running hard.
Trying your best.
Feeling frustrated.
Guessing your way through challenges.
Wondering why the results aren’t changing.
But with coaching?
You build:
- A plan for cravings
- A strategy for social pressure
- A mindset for setbacks
- A system for success
- A belief that you can win—even when it’s hard
You stop reacting—and start playing intentionally.
Losses Can Still Be Wins
Last night reminded me that progress doesn’t always show up as a victory on paper.
Sometimes progress looks like:
- Staying sober at a party
- Choosing rest instead of wine
- Speaking kindly to yourself after a hard day
- Trying again after a setback
- Moving from overwhelmed… to empowered
Sometimes progress is the overtime game that used to be a blowout.
The Power of the Right Coach
The difference between 6–0 and overtime wasn’t luck.
It wasn’t talent.
It wasn’t timing.
It was coaching.
And if coaching can transform a team like that…
Imagine what it can do for your life.
If you’ve been trying to change your habits, your drinking, or your direction—and feeling stuck—maybe the problem isn’t you.
Maybe you don’t need more willpower.
Maybe you need a coach.
Someone to help you build the system that gets you to overtime…
and eventually, to victory. ⚽✨
